Vintage Chandelier Revisited

Posted

Thanks to hit shows like HGTV's Fixer Upper, the DIY craze has never been so big.  In Benson, Omaha Mom Laci Mulick is making fixing up furniture her business.

"So there's a lot of people now that can do these things and are willing to do them," Mulick said.

At her store, The Vintage Chandelier, she's sharing her knowledge and tips with others. We first met Mulick almost a year and half ago. She was making trash into treasure from old furniture she'd scour from garage and estate sales. She'd gotten into it after DIYing for her 3 kids' bedrooms.

"I wanted them to have cute things, but we were on a very small budget," she said.

This winter, she redid the whole store space, all under a budget of 200 dollars. Bright pieces like a modern christmas tree made from scrap wood made the thriftyness possible. Mulick also got her kids in on the action: decorating christmas clouds and snowflakes, selling upcycled accessories, and learning a lesson along the way.

"I have a lot of mason jars and things that they paint and create. That money is money they take and put into their bank account every month. So it's been really nice of them to get a value for their dollar, and learn a little hard work," she said.

Mulick also recrafted her business plan. She added furniture restoration and refinishing workshops for adults and kids into the crafting craze. That inspiration, adding to her own.

"That's all that matters. We just want someone to look at this and go oh it's so pretty look what I can do."
