Your Family Now: Single mom realizes dream with new cake shop

You typically need dedication, hard work and support to open your own business. That has been the recipe to get Omaha Cake Design up and running.

Heather Stefano has been a single mom, raising her son alone since he was born seven years ago. Some might put their dreams aside, but Stefano knew she didn't want to rely on others. "I thought, I have to do something. I'm barely making it...I've got to make my son proud of me."

When her son was two she started going to culinary school.

Thanks to the support of a financial business partner, she was able to open Omaha Cake Design at 84th and Q in December.

She sells cupcakes, cake balls, mini cheesecakes, fudge and more in the store, and she makes made-to-order cakes for all occasions. She's most proud of her fondant work. "I can make these little figurines, I can do sculpture work of you, yourself, little animals, that is definitely my strong point."

You can check out her work on her Facebook page
