Family and friends said their final goodbyes to Husker punter Sam Foltz Saturday morning at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island.

He lost his life in a car crash last weekend in Wisconsin.

The funeral was very emotional and somber for those who knew the beloved punter.

“Our brother Sam was taken from us, come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him and comfort his family and friends,” said Father Don Buhrman.

Those family and friends mourn the loss of a guy they describe as passionate, dedicated, a farm kid from Greeley and as down-to-earth as they come.

“Sam lived a full life, he enjoyed life and isn't that a gift we are supposed to enjoy,” said Buhrman.

Foltz was going into his final year as a punter for this Husker squad. He won the Big Ten punter of the year award last year and was a 4-time member of Nebraska’s scholar-athlete honor roll.

Those accolades are part of Foltz’s legacy he passes on to those who looked up to him.

Foltz was only 22-years-old and his mom said while Foltz wont be playing at the next level, he’s at the best level-in heaven.
