It’s news Husker fans have been waiting five years for - being considered a top 10 football program.
For the first time since 2011, the team is ranked ninth in the Coaches' Top 25 Poll and 10th by the Associated Press.
While we heard a little skepticism from fans about how much polling really means to the quality of a team, for the most part, Monday’s news made their day.
A lot of fans tell me today that the top ten ranking is well deserved and that it will help build on momentum the team has already been building this year.
While it has been five years since the huskers were rated in the top 10, several fans said they were waiting for it to happen because of how good the team is overall.
These fans have different perspectives about the huskers ranking.
"I don't necessarily trust the ranking system but I'm very, very happy with the results that we've gotten,” said Steven Bruening. “I'm actually surprised that we've gotten up so much, so quick."
“It's a way of life for us,” said Paul Cunningham. “It's not just a statistic. Every time we sit down and watch Husker football and 90,000 people show up at the stadium on Saturday to watch the game, that's a big deal. That's the whole state that's going to get behind this program."
Both fans say although the news is a reflection of the team's performance this year, they say that time will tell if the Huskers can maintain their spot as a top 10 college football team.
For a Monday afternoon, almost everyone who talked with KMTV about their team, it made their day.
