For the first time in 84 games, Creighton baseball was shut out Saturday afternoon, as the Bluejays fell to Winthrop, 4-0. Winthrop seized an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning and held on throughout a pitcher's duel at TD Ameritade.
Creighton's Jeff Albrecht kept the Bluejays in the contest by only allowing one run on five hits over seven innings of work, but the Eagles' Nate Pawelcyzk was locked in on Saturday afternoon. Pawelcyzk carried a perfect game into the fifth inning and did not give up a hit until two were down in the seventh.
With the loss, Creighton falls to 8-13 this season. The two teams conclude the weekend series Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
