Creighton men's basketball's Justin Patton has been named the 2016-2017 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
Creighton's last Freshman of the Year award went to Doug McDermott in 2010-11 when the Bluejays were in the Missouri Valley.
Omaha native, Patton leads Creighton with 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He also comes in second on the team averaging 13.1 points per game. Patton owns 65 dunks on the season along with ranking second nationally in field goal percentage .693.
Patton was a unanimous pick to the All-Freshman Team and a Second Team All-Conference choice.
Creighton (23-8, 10-8 BIG EAST) meets up with Providence (20-11, 10-8 BIG EAST) in the final BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal Wednesday, March 9th. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CST.
