Huskers hang on to beat Ohio State, take series

The Huskers nearly blew a ten run lead but hung on to beat Ohio State, 11-9, Sunday in Columbus. With the win, Nebraska (26-16-1, 9-5-1) took two of three over the weekend from the Buckeyes. 

NU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks in part to a two run single by Ben Miller. 

The Big Red tacked on two more in the top of the 2nd to make it 5-0. The Huskers didn't score again until the top of the 7th but it turned out to be a big inning for Nebraska as NU scored five runs to make it 10-1. 

Jake Schleppenbach's RBI double scored Mojo Hagge in the top of the 8th & made it 11-1 Huskers. But then the Buckeyes exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the 8th to make it an 11-9 game. 

Luis Alvarado came in for the save in the bottom of the 9th recording two strikeouts. 

Jake Meyers picked up with the win on the mound for Nebraska going seven innings striking out four while only giving up one run. The Omaha Westside alum moved his record to 7-1 on the season. 

The Huskers return to action next Friday at home against Rutgers starting at 6:35 p.m.
