LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) At the beginning of Wednesday's Nebraska football practice, Mick Stoltenberg showed why he's looked to as one of the Husker leaders this year. Stoltenberg appeared to give a quick, passionate quick to his teammates before the Big Red began their workout.

The senior from Gretna seems to be determined to make his last season in Lincoln count.

"It's not a thing where everyone's got to be that guy," said Stoltenberg. "But the few guys that there are, when they speak up you know it's important and you know they have some good stuff to say. A lot of times those vocal leaders are guys that are giving 100 percent on the field. If you want to talk the talk, you've got to walk the walk."

One Husker who's noticed Stoltenberg step up his leadership is a player who lines up against him nearly every practice: offensive guard Tanner Farmer.

"When we got this new coaching staff, Mick really stepped up," said Farmer. "He really cares. No one cares as much as Mick. He's got so much passion."

Stoltenberg and the rest of the Huskers host Akron to open the 2018 season on September 1st.
