If preseason watch lists are any indication, Nebraska should have a talented core returning to the field this season. Terrell Newby and Tommy Armstrong are the newest Huskers added to a preseason award watch list.

Newby, the senior Husker I-back, was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list. The award is given out at the end of each season to the nation's top running back. Newby was one of 76 running backs placed on the watch list, and one of nine Big Ten backs placed on the list.

Last season, Newby rushed for 765 yards on 147 carries and six touchdowns. Newby proved to be a versatile threat out of the backfield for Nebraska, catching 24 passes for 159 yards.

Veteran quarterback Armstrong was added to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list. The award is given out each season to the nation's most outstanding quarterback. Armstrong is one of 30 quarterbacks in the nation, and is one of the five Big Ten quarterbacks added to the list.

Last season, Armstrong threw for 3,030 yards, ran for another 400 yards, and accumulated 29 touchdowns. No Husker has won the Davey O'Brien Award since Eric Crouch in 2001. Armstrong will make his 34th start when the Huskers take on Fresno State in Memorial Stadium September 3.
