McCaffery is the younger brother of former Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey & the son of former Denver Broncos receiver Ed McCaffrey.

Luke is listed as a four star quarterback by 247 Sports & a three star by Rivals. He becomes Nebraska's 7th known commit for the 2019 class. The 6'2" 180 pounder is ranked as the #1 player in the state of Colorado for 2019 by 247 Sports. McCaffrey also had offers from Michigan, Ohio State & Colorado among others.
