Husker Punter Sam Foltz was named the first ever honorary nominee for the Senior CLASS Award.

The national award recognizes NCAA Division 1 FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) seniors that have showed achievement in these areas: community, classroom, character and competition.

CLASS stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The award looks to encourage student-athletes to make a positive impact in their communities.

A news release on the naming of Foltz as an honorary nominee said, "Foltz stood for all of the ideals of the Senior CLASS Award before his tragic passing on July 23. Foltz was the 2015 Big Ten Punter of the Year and a member of the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award. He was a standout in the classroom and community as well."

A CLASS award winner will be chosen out of 30 candidates and announced in January.

Husker Ameer Abdullah was selected as the winner of the football Senior CLASS Award in 2014.
