The Nebraska football team has a long and storied tradition with its walk-on program. Many who originally paid their way to play end up earning a full-scholarship. Recent players to do so include Andy Janovich, Tyler Hoppes and Luke McNitt.
Unlike past seasons the team may not award scholarships at the end of camp, but Scott Frost can't wait to hand out the first one when the time comes.
"I can't wait to give my first walk-on a scholarship," Frost said. "It will be a happy day for me when I see that come to fruition and see that plan for walk-ons take the next step. But we're not going to hand them out. Guys will have to earn them and be on the field and do things the right way and the Nebraska right way and we'll see if we have any coming up right away in fall, but I expect these guys to get there soon rather than later."
In 2017 the Huskers awarded six scholarships to walk-ons before the start of the regular season.
