Davis, Schwarzenbach impress in Red/White scrimmage

Posted

The Nebraska volleyball team starts its title defense Friday evening as the the 2nd-ranked Huskers host 7th-ranked Florida in a 2017 national title rematch.

NU is coming off its annual Red/White scrimmage in which freshman Capri Davis and Callie Schwarzenbach combined for 14 kills and eight blocks. The freshman said the scrimmage helped them feel more comfortable on the court heading in to the regular season.

"After a couple serves, I know I got a lot more comfortable," said Schwarzenbach. "The girls helped a lot with that too. Just making us feel a part of the team and once we started playing it was a lot more fun to see."

"We've been on the court together just during practices so just being able to see how we would react with each other on the court was just a different experience for us, so I thought it was really cool just have that moment just before Florida so we got the chance to just get in a real good groove with each other," said Davis. "Being able to understand what we can work on through practices next week, just being able to see in a different perspective."

Friday's match will start at 6 p.m. Along with Nebraska and Florida the 2018 Vert Challenge will feature No. 3 Texas and No. 18 Oregon.
