Creighton Preps American Legion team Five Points Bank fell 2-1 to Henderson, Nevada Tuesday night in the American Legion World Series Championship.
Five Points fought for the city's first Legion title in 78 years. Tuesday night marked the first loss in five games for Creighton Prep (58-7).
“The team totally exceeded every one of my expectations,” head coach Pat Mooney said. “A lot of work has gone into this thing since I guess about January. It’s been unbelievable. I’m very proud of how far they went."
Five Points were the first on the board with a run in the bottom of the first. Nevada fought back tying the game in the third and again in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.
“We scored right away, but their starting pitcher got better and better,” Mooney said. “It was unfortunate we had to play two games today, but if you can’t get up to play the title game, obviously something’s wrong. And the guys played their hearts out.”
