Omaha North, Burke prepare for undefeated showdown

Posted

Thursday night kicks off a full-slate of week seven high school football matchups with two undefeated teams squaring off. Larry Martin and the No. 1 ranked Omaha North Vikings travel to Burke Stadium to take on the No. 6 ranked Burke Bulldogs.

Last season, Burke came out on top in a close 51-50 thriller over the Vikings. However, Burke quarterback Tyler Chadwick knows that last season is in the past.

"Just because we beat them last year doesn't mean that we're going to beat them this year," Chadwick said. "We have to come out guns blazing because they're going to be hungry."

Chadwick also said that his team last season was not in the same position in the Class A standings that they are this season, which makes his team even more hungry.

"A 3-6 record, not the greatest we've ever had," Chadwick said. "This year we're coming off 6-0, wanting to be 7-0. It's going to be a big game."

While Omaha North Head Coach Larry Martin said his team was disappointed to lose last season, he said Burke deserved to win that game.

"Burke's kids, they deserved to win that game last year. They out played us and gave a great effort to get that," Martin said. "So I think our kids, yes were disappointed after they walked away from that, but they also learned that they have to bring it every single week, and you've got to prepare every week, so that was a great win for them."

Martin also said his team will learn from its mistakes last season and hopes to keep the undefeated season alive.

"I would say yeah (last year's game) definitely has our kids attention," Martin said. "Two OPS schools that are undefeated, our district is very proud of that. We hope that being on the road that our kids have prepared themselves better and learned from that and just hoping for a great night of high school football."
