The OSI Game of the Week certainly lived up to its billing tonight, as No. 6 Creighton Prep hosted No. 8 Kearney at Burke Stadium on Prep's senior night. And it was a Junior Jay senior who had himself a career night. Senior quarterback A.J. Hubner tied a state record, throwing six touchdown passes on Prep's way to a thrilling 49-42 victory.
It was actually the visitors from Kearney that got on the board first. Kanon Koster connected with Brant Barth for a touchdown toss that put the Bearcats up 7-0. On the ensuing Creighton Prep drive, Hubner connected with Drew Dunham for his first touchdown pass on the evening, tying it up at 7.
Hubner added another touchdown strike to Thomas Corpuz right before the half that tied the game at 21 heading into the halftime locker room.
Hubner and Corpuz started the fourth quarter the same way, hooking up for another touchdown that gave Prep a 42-35 lead. After Kearney tied it back up at 42, it was the ground game that proved to be the difference for the Junior Jays. Nate Reiner took a handoff up the middle and muscled his way across the goal line for the game winning score.
With the win, Creighton Prep improves to 5-2 this season, while Kearney falls to 5-2.
