BELLEVUE (KMTV) — After winning the Class A state title last year, Bellevue West is motivated to repeat in 2020.

"Definitely with our tradition, we want to hold ourselves to that level," said senior wide receiver Keagan Johnson, who's committed to Iowa. "That's what we're striving for."

The T-Birds take the field with a little more fire after starting 3rd in the Omaha World-Herald's preseason ranking.

"We're all a little upset with that," said senior safety C.J. Lilienkamp. "But we're coming back with everything we have showing everything that we are going to be number one again."

"It depends on what you look at," said head coach Michael Huffman. "We're actually #1 in more polls than we're not. It's just the big one in this state, we're #3. So at the end of the day, there's only one poll that matters and that's the one after Thanksgiving and that's the one we want to be on top of."

Bellevue West kicks off the season this Friday at home against its crosstown rival Bellevue East.
