It's been a tough pill to swallow for Brandon Steburg.
“Football is my entire life so it's kind of hard to stop doing what you love,” said Steburg.
On September 23rd the Papillion La Vista Senior sustained a brain injury while doing what he loved.
Steburg spent six days in a medically induced coma. Doctors temporally removed part of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain.
On October 6th he was moved to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals Lincoln Campus.

“He is going to challenge himself. I don't have to encourage him to do better,” said Sarah Economides.
Physical Therapist Sarah Economides says for weeks they've worked on Steburg's balance, endurance and issues with double vision.
“I’m making big strides. I am going back home on Friday and I’m pretty excited about that,” said Steburg.
“Most patients that we have with that type of injury don't come back this quickly, so he's doing awesome,” said Economides.

Steburg’s determination and completive edge pushed him while at Madonna. Steburg says he can’t thank everyone enough for cheering him on throughout his recovery.
“I know that the prayers got me through all of this. I know the reason I woke up is because of all the people praying for me,” said Steburg. Football may be over, but life is just beginning for the 18-year-old. “
There are a lot of other things out there in the world that I can do and excel at. I’m excited to see what the future brings,” said Steburg.
