Extra troopers will be out monitoring the extra traffic during the Nebraska high school boys basketball championship in Lincoln this week.

The Nebraska State Patrol says they’ll have extra enforcement beginning Thursday, the first day of the tournament, and lasting until it ends on Saturday.

“Tournament time is an exciting time across our state and with the potential for increased traffic volume it is also a busy time on our roadways,” said Nebraska State Patrol Superintendent Bradley Rice.

Troopers will be looking for speeders, checking for seat belts and watching for impaired or distracted drivers.

The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety awarded an $8,950 grant to help pay for the extra enforcement.
