Omaha Central announced a plan to take on Winnebago in boys basketball next season in Omaha. Omaha Central head coach Ben Holling said the game is tentatively set for December 22nd.
Holling said the school is still searching for a venue for the game, but based on possible attendance numbers, Ralston Arena or Baxter Arena could house the event. Winnebago drew some attention from local basketball fans because of the amount of fans that flocked to watch the team play in the state tournament.
Winnebago finished third in Class C-2 this season, but won the Class C-1 state title in 2015. Winnebago came into the 2016 state tournament undefeated as the number one seed, but was upset by fifth-seeded Elmwood-Murdock. Winnebago loses just one starter to graduation for next season.
Omaha Central was bounced early from the Class A state tournament this year, losing to Omaha Creighton Prep 58-57 in the first round. Central finished the season 18-7.
