August Weather Preview

Summer Heat Returns In August
Posted

On average, we have made it through the hottest month of the year, which for Omaha, is July. That doesn't mean summer is over though, even after a cool finish to July.

According to records kept by the National Weather Service in Valley, the average high temperature over the last 30 years in August is 85 degrees, just about 2 degrees lower than July. Omaha averages a morning low of 64 in August.

As for rain, Omaha's Eppley Airfield has averaged about 3.8 inches in August the last 30 years.

The latest information released by the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) shows we may come fairly close to all of those averages this August.

Of course, there will be hot stretches of weather and cooler stretches of weather in the coming month, but overall, the CPC shows the region with an equal chance of seeing above average heat or below average heat. So, we likely won't land too far from average in either direction for temperatures.

For rain, there is also no strong sign of us seeing above or below average rain for the month. The better chances of seeing above average rain are in the Southeast and along the East Coast.

Of course, longer-term outlooks are not perfect, so we will have to wait and see exactly what Mother Nature has for us in the cards.
