ELKHORN, Neb. (KMTV) — A viking is making house calls in Omaha; Little Scandinavia in Elkhorn is making free deliveries for purchases over $50.
“The viking is here. There’s no need for fear. The viking is here to bring you some cheer,” Carl Anderson sings to a customer.
The pandemic has hit the small business hard. Without an establish website to shop, most of their business comes from the store.
“We have things from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, a little bit of Iceland, Finland,” Amy Anderson said. “We’ve got jewelry, dish cloths, napkins, chocolate, fun kids books.”
“I love European chocolate,” Carl said. “It’s smoother for some reason than what we have here in the states and my favorite is Icelandic, this melts in your mouth, I love this stuff.”
Amy and Carl were brainstorming ideas a couple of months ago on how they could keep their business afloat when he volunteered to be a viking.
“A lot of our customers are in that at risk demographic,” Amy said. “I was trying to think I know their names and faces and I care about them but I don’t want them to get out if they’re not supposed to. But I also want to stay in business.”
The idea has been a hit!
“We come from Norwegian heritage,” Lisa Johnson said. “The shop has a ton of things that bring back memories from childhood and help us to share that heritage with our kids.”
People have been ordering for themselves or surprising others, like Diane's sisters who had to cancel their trip.
"Happy Sister Day to you, Happy Sister Day dear Diane Happy sister Day to you!” Carl sings.
“Oh my favorite Viking. I’ve got to take a picture!" Carl said.
Little Scandinavia makes deliveries every Friday afternoon. You can shop their store in Olde Towne Elkhorn or call them to place your order (402) 289-2307.
