OMAHA, Ne. (KMTV) — Everybody's life has flipped upside down but here in the Cathedral neighborhood, there's still one staple that remains open and that's Lisa's Radial Cafe.
"We are definitely known for the Titanic, which is like hash browns with biscuits, gravy, chicken fried steak and eggs...and then our pancakes as well," said owner Jennifer Mcguire. "We have huge blueberry pancakes, banana pancakes, all sorts of them."
If you're looking for breakfast or lunch to go, Lisa's Radial Cafe is the spot.
Mcguire, who's mother was Lisa, says the family will be celebrating it's 20th anniversary there in August. The building itself has been there since 1938.
They're currently offering curbside, to-go and delivery via Grubhub and making every order a little special by decorating the to-go boxes.
They continue to have daily specials and will be open for Easter, which is a family tradition.
"We are keeping our full menu as long as we can; we are running our fish and chips special every Friday, especially since the fish fries are closed down and we have such a strong Catholic following here with the church next door, so we definitely do the fish fries on Friday,"Mcguire said. "Our weekday specials - we have spaghetti on Wednesday, today is chicken parm, so it kind of changes every day."
Mcguire says they're making sure to keep everything as clean as possible.
"We are constantly sanitizing every surface we see; anytime someone has a downtime, they are cleaning handles, cleaning door knobs, cleaning bathrooms, even though nobody is going in there, they're constantly being cleaned," Mcguire said. "Hand-washing is definitely a must. We have our gloves here, just doing everything we can so everything stays as clean as possible."
Like many restaurants during this time, they've had to let employees go.
"We have not been able to keep all of our staff. We tried to keep as many as we can. A lot of our servers, especially like our weekend servers who only work one day a week, obviously we can't - I don't have the hours for them. So we're just trying to do the best we can with our skeleton crew as we call it, kind of rotating people in when we can"
But they're staying optimistic...hoping to bring a little comfort to their customers.
"Any little bit of normalcy that we can bring into the world right now is all we are trying to do, and it's the same for our employees here as well," Mcguire said. "Lisa Harrison is one of our weekday waitresses who people absolutely love. She keeps calling me, 'I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do.' I'm like, 'Well come here, like you can work, you can take the orders.' It gives everybody that sense of normalcy in their lives in this crazy time, so we'll keep doing it as long as we can."
