OMAHA. NEB. (KMTV) — Fun Plex has been providing entertainment to families for 40 years. While it may not always be easy to keep the park up and running workers say the joy it provides is worth the work.
It has been family owned ever since they opened in 1979. “It started out as a go cart track,” said General Manager, Katie Anderson. Over the past four decades a small go cart track has turned into almost 16 acres of fun.
From big rides to water slides Fun Plex has something for everyone. “We've brought in the adult swim-up bar,” said Anderson. Even though they are constantly adding on, “in the 90s we brought in the water park features,” said Anderson. You can still find your favorite classic rides. “I have a picture of myself when I was 4 years old on the Go Gater, one of our first kiddie rides and it's still here, been through a lot of different parts but we still have the original Go Gater,” she said.
Anderson attributes their 40-year success to their ability to grow and add features that are in high demand. While still providing a sense of nostalgia for families. “I've got little nieces that are now able to ride those same rides and it's really cool to see and it's fun to think that a lot of families in Omaha are gonna have that experience to now bring their kids to a place they enjoyed when they were little,” she said.
Even if it can only be experienced for a couple months a year. “We're only open for about 90 days a year but it's a 360 day a year job to just to keep everything current,” said Anderson, "just to maintain a 40-year-old park it takes a lot of work."
Fun Plex officially opens on May 25th. To celebrate their 40th anniversary the owners here at Fun Plex want to see the memories you have created at the park. You can submit your Fun Plex photos to the park’s website or Facebook page. For each photo submission, you'll be put into a drawing for a 2019 summer pass.
