OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — When the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services conducted an unannounced inspection of Life Care Center of Elkhorn on May 18, they found that the facility followed COVID-19 protocols and other infection control guidelines.
There have been nine confirmed deaths and 98 cases, including 30 in employees, Life Care Centers of America said Tuesday. Seven were hospitalized.
The facility was cited with failing to give at least three residents a bath in more than a week. The facility had switched to only doing bed baths to prevent spread, facility administration told an inspector.
The facility was cited with infection control issues in 2018 and 2019. They were fined more than $62,000 after a February 2019 inspection which discovered Life Care Center of Elkhorn mishandled a sexual assault allegation. Other serious citations were issued.
