4 ways OPS prepares for threats

Posted

After the nation’s second-largest school district canceled classes because of a threat, local schools officials say there are procedures in place for such things.

KMTV asked an Omaha Public Schools district spokesperson how they respond to such cases:

Protocols for district-wide threats:

“If there were a district-wide threat, district officials would ensure that each school would be immediately notified and put into response mode."

Monitoring threats:

“All staff are asked to be vigilant for any potential threats.  Furthermore, the district provides employees with threat assessment training, which teaches key things to look for and warning signs related to potential threats."

Credibility of a threat:

"District officials work in concert with authorities to determine whether a threat is credible."

Evaluating response policies:

"OPS continuously evaluates its security protocols to ensure the safety of all.  We partner with law enforcement in this effort."
