LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) - Monroe Evans III, who was shot by police after he fired at officers at Dewey Park in January, had an warrant issued for his arrest last week.
The 20-year-old, who is still recovering at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, is being charged with assault of an officer, attempted assault on an officer and two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony.
According to an affidavit, Evans shot police officer Jill Schillerberg in the leg, and she suffered a "minor graze." Matthew Skradski, the other officer at the scene, returned fire, shooting 12 rounds at Evans.
The arrest of Evans will likely take place after he leaves the hospital. Evans' father said his son told him he didn't shoot her and would never pull a gun on a police officer.
