Businesses preparing for incoming snow

Posted

The incoming snow has some Omaha businesses making a quick shift from Fall to Winter. Many lawn care companies are putting away their mowers and putting on their plows.

On Friday, that will be a whole different story as the weather changes so do local businesses as they gear up for a very busy day.

Out with the lawn mower and weed eaters, in with the snow blowers and plows.

Kozy Lawn Care is in the middle of transitioning from taking care of your lawns to removing your snow.

"You have to make sure the plow work, that's always a challenge, snow blowers, making sure you have enough ice melt," said Joe Kozel, owner of Kozy Lawn Care.

Kozel says this is the busiest time for him because they are in the middle of two different services they provide; lawn care and snow removal.

"You have new guys you have to make sure they have their list with customers, what the customers are looking for, and that's a challenge too making sure you have the right workers in the right places," said Kozel.

Kozel says they prep well in advance and rely heavily on forecasts to schedule to schedule his 25 employees.

"I knew the snow was coming this week on Monday I put plows on the trucks we weren't using anymore, things are slowing down on the lawn care so there's certain things we use that we are prepping for the storm," said Kozel.

Across town, hardware stores are also getting ready for the rush of customers.

"You start seeing people come in once you start seeing the snow falling," said from Sean Grant assistant manager Westwood Ace Hardware.

They say they'll stock the shelves full, as this will probably be the busiest they've been this season.

"We sold some shovels, probably sold 5 or so snow blowers people have started to really get prepped for the winter," said Grant.

But Kozel says have all your ducks in a row, something can always go wrong.

"Snow blowers are a pain, they break all the time they're genius when they do work it's such a pain when you have a shovel," said Kozel.
