Creighton University is remembering the life of one its students who died in a wreck while on her way to watch the total solar eclipse with her friends last week.
Joan Ocampo-Yambing, 19, died after the crash when a semi trailer rear-ended the car which also left six people seriously injured, according to Omaha police.
A memorial mass is scheduled to take place at St. John's Church on the university's campus at 7 p.m., according to a tweet from the college's president, Rev. Daniel Hendrickson.
The student would have started the new school year as a sophomore, majoring in computer science.
The memorial mass follows several tributes from friends and family online and in real-life.
Students gathered for a prayer vigil the evening of the Aug. 21 crash. The following day, incoming freshmen and faculty held a moment of silence during Creighton Pathway, an annual event when students walk from St. John's to the D.J. Sokol Arena wearing blue.
