After a cool weekend, the summer heat has returned to the Omaha area in a stuffy, uncomfortable way.

The blistering heat left two dogs in danger late Tuesday morning.

Omaha Police were called to the Home Depot at 72nd and Ames around 11:00 am. after someone spotted the dogs inside.

When officers saw two small dogs trapped in the car, they called in the humane society for help.

A humane society officer told KMTV that the pups were getting worse as each minute passed.

However, the owner came out just before police had to break a car window to free the dogs.

Officer gave her a citation.

She was allowed to take the dogs home.
