The Douglas County Sheriff's Office tells 3 News Now that a 61-year-old male inmate at the Douglas County jail died tonight after an alleged assault.

They say inmate Steven Claycamp tried to get into a hallway that he did have permission to be in 4:30 p.m. They say he then got combative with staff. A struggle ensued and additional staff members responded. At that point, a guard restrained him.

Claycamp was taken to another area where they say he continued to be combative. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office tells us Claycamp was sedated and put in a restraining chair. The Sheriff's Office says that's when he lost consciousness. People at the jail performed CPR, but he was unresponsive.

He was taken to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center, where he died.

Claycamp arrived at the Department of Corrections on Sunday on suspicion of terroristic threats and possession of a controlled substance.
