No matter how big Terence Crawford gets, he's always going to stay true to his roots.

The world champion boxer paid a visit to Miller Park Elementary School Monday afternoon where they unveiled a mural.

The mural of Crawford hangs in the school gym.  Students will be reminded daily that if you work hard, anything is possible.

"It all started with a dream and ambition,” said Terence Crawford.

On Monday, Miller Park Elementary School got to hear some wise words from a great role model.

“There are going to be times that you feel that you can't catch a break, but I’m here to tell you that there is a time that you are going to get a break.  You just have to keep to fighting for it, keep believing and never take no for an answer,” said Crawford.

The Omaha native and world champion boxer sees the potential in our city and our youth.

“There is a lot of talent in Omaha, not just boxing, but all over.  I feel like if I stay in Omaha then more talent will stay in Omaha and uplift our city,” said Crawford.

Local artist Aayron Williams says when he was approached about painting a mural of an influential African American as part of a Juneteenth celebration project, Terence Crawford came to mind.

“They wanted to do like a Martin Luther King mural or an older figure, but I wanted to do a younger guy who is on top of the world right now,” said Williams.

The mural of the boxer is now proudly displayed at Miller Park Elementary School.

“Every time you look at that mural think about how hard Mr. Crawford worked to get where he is right now,” said Miller Park Elementary Principal, Dr. Carrie Rath.
