Two young men gunned down on a metro highway, and the family of one of the men is asking for your help identifying the shooter.

At about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a shooting on Highway 75 near the Hamilton Street exit. Xavier Bass, 21, and a second man were both severely wounded and were taken to the hospital. Bass died; the other man is recovering.

Police have said the suspects and victims were traveling southbound, and said they don't believe this was a case of road rage.

Family said Bass was a smart and vibrant young man interested in starting a career in welding. He turned 21 years old about a week ago.

"It's tough. I wake up in the morning, and you just start thinking about different memories, how I saw him last week," said Andre McGraw, Bass’s uncle. "And then for my sister, it's just really trying to be there for her because I can only imagine."

Police released photos of the suspect's vehicle, describing it as a mid-90's Chevy Suburban or Tahoe with running boards and aftermarket paint job.

Investigators have not yet identified a suspect.
