Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a former Omaha Police officer.
Scotty Payne turned himself on charges of second-degree assault in June of 2017 stemming from his role in the death of Zachary Bearheels, who died of excited delirium while in police custody.

Bearheels died on June 5, 2017 following a struggle with Payne and fellow officer Ryan McClarty, who was charged with third-degree assault.
Payne and McClarty were shown on video repeatedly punching and stunning Beaheels.
