The man who dated both Shanna Golyar and Cari Farver, who went missing in 2012, takes the stand in the murder trial in Douglas County District Court.
Dave Kroupa testified that he received 12,000 threatening emails and text over a period of 4 years after Cari Farver went missing. Golyar, 41, is charged with 1st-degree murder.
Prosecutors say Golyar stabbed Farver in her vehicle, burned her body, and then took Farver's identity to make it look like she was still alive and stalking Kroupa. He dated Golyar, broke it off with her, and started dating Farver before she went missing.
Kroupa read more than 100 emails and text messages supposedly sent from Farver that mentioned she would kill any woman he dated and their children. They also told him to stop dating Golyar. Authorities say Golyar continually made herself look like the victim so Kroupa would continue seeing her.
The defense argued Farver's body has never been found so no one can say that she was murdered and where and when it happened. Defense attorney James Martin Davis also had Kroupa point out that he talked to 30-40 women over the 4 year period.
The trial will continue on Tuesday and should last at least through the end of the week.
