Misplaced car keys apparently foiled a pair of accused shoplifters at an Omaha grocery store, according to police.
Donna Biggs, 57, and her son, 25-year-old Zakk Biggs, were booked into jail Monday in connection with shoplifting cases at Natural Grocers and No Name Nutrition.
Police say the mother-son duo tried to steal more than $2,300 in vitamin supplements at the Natural Grocers at 78th and Dodge on Thursday, Dec. 24, but couldn’t find their car keys to get away.
The store manager confronted them and managed to take their keys after seeing they were left in the passenger door lock, according to an incident report.
They left after leaving the stolen merchandise nearby on the sidewalk, police said.
Investigators said the store manager provided officers with information from a similar theft at No Name Nutrition the day before, which they believed was committed by the same suspects.
They both face charges of theft by shoplifting.
