DENISON, Ia. (KMTV) — People in need of some Christmas cheer this year are flocking to one area tree farm which says it's sold about twice as many Christmas trees when compared to previous years.

Deb and Rodney Michael understand the value of buying a real Christmas tree - they've bought them for more than a decade.

On Friday, they were on the hunt for the perfect tree at Evergreen Acres in Denison, Iowa.

"I just think it brings a little bit of nature in, nature always makes you feel better, makes you feel good, whether you're out in it or you bring it into your home," Deb said.

Evergreen Acres laborer Doug Schwabe works at the tree farm and said he notices one trend: people want a grand, traditional and welcoming tree this year.

"People love the bigger trees more, they must be building homes with higher ceilings and they like the tall trees like 9, 10, 12-foot trees," Schwabe said.

Evergreen Acres owner Andrea Nelson says there are practical benefits to buying trees straight from the farm.

"With a real tree, it's going to last longer, when they are just cut like they are from our farm, they're not going to dry out," Nelson said.

Schwabe hopes people can find comfort from Mother Nature during these challenging times.

"They are hoping for better things," Schwabe said. "Christmas trees provide that."

If you are interested in snatching one of those trees, there are just two weekends left to buy a real tree at Evergreen Acres.
