OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) -- — The life of a Disc Jockey can be exciting, and now local kids are learning how to rock the turntables.
Glenn Lewis, also known as DJ Animale, is teaching a handful of Gilder Elementary Students in 3rd-6th grade how to DJ and mix music through the Kids Can! After-School Program.
The 8-week program is part of the STEM-Smart Academy, and they have another session as well.
"To me I just think it's something that give them all an opportunity to learn something that's interesting for them and gives them something positive and a creative outlet,” Lewis explained.
The kids learn to set up, make the beats, and mix their own music. 6th grader Korgen Tegeder says he's seen it on YouTube and is excited to cut the vinyl.
"I enjoy it because I like messing around with music and it's fun to interact with knowing songs that you already know and being able to change them," Tegeder described.
At the end of the 8-week program the kids will put on a show for the other children in the afterschool program. Kids Can! hopes to expand it to other schools soon.
