Firefighters were able to rescue two dogs from a house fire Sunday evening, but two pet birds did not survive.

The Omaha Fire Department says crews were called to a home near 144th and Q streets around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen. One person was able to safely make it outside.

The fire has been ruled accidental.
