“Oh my gosh, I love Costco,” said one La Vista resident.
It’s a grand opening that has La Vista residents counting down the days.
“I'm thrilled that they are finally opening a new store out here and I can't wait for it to come about,” said another resident.
Even Mayor Doug Kindig can’t contain his excitement.
“I go out there at least two or three times a week to just kind of check on the progress,” said Kindig.
Kindig says the addition of Costco created 200 local jobs and gives La Vista a boost in sales and property tax dollars. But, most importantly, it fits perfectly with the city’s master plan.
“We didn't want it to be an area where you drive to six other areas in the Omaha Metro and get the same thing,” said Kindig.
Eight years ago Cabela’s and a few hotel chains came to I-80 and Giles. Slowly but surely more businesses have been added.
“You know we made an investment out there and we are starting to see the return in that investment,” said Kindig.
Kindig says the area is quickly turning into a destination with places like Alamo Draft House and Costco opening soon. Everyone wants to be part of the growth.
“Papillion-La Vista is amazing, I love this area,” said Xi Nguyen.
Xi Nguyen says she and her boyfriend took a leap of faith and purchased a storefront in an empty retail bay next to Alamo Drafthouse.
“It was a customer who told me this place is growing, that it is going to be awesome. It’s going to be a great place to do business. I’m like are you sure,” said Nguyen.
Virgo Nails opened in August and the salon is packed most days. Nguyen says she can't even imagine how good things will be when other stores start moving in and Costco finally opens.
Costco officially opens on October 26th at 8 a.m.
