OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Topgolf officially broke ground on Nebraska's first venue in Omaha. Construction will begin this week.

Update: Topgolf looks to fill 400 positions at new location in Omaha

Plans call for building a multi-level venue with climate-controlled hitting bays, lounge bar and restaurant at the site of former car dealerships across from Westroads Mall.

"We are thrilled for the opportunity to create unforgettable shared experiences with our associates and guests once Topgolf Omaha officially opens next year," Chris Callaway, Topgolf Chief Development Officer said in a news release.

Topgolf aims to make the game of golf more engaging and inclusive. The venue will have technology that will allow golfers to play in an open-area and use hitting targets. It has grown into a global sports entertainment company. There are 54 U.S. venues and four international venues, which draw more than 17 million people annually.

Officials anticipate the new venue will be ready to open next spring.
