OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Thursday afternoon USL Omaha hosted a round table discussion in Benson to hear what the fans wanted in their new club's crest and name.

For soccer fans, a team's crest, name and colors are just as important as the players on the pitch. Fans had the opportunity to share their thoughts with management. The supporters said what words come to mind when they think of Omaha and what symbols and feelings they want associated with the club.

The team says it's important for the fans to have a say in the naming process.

"If we went with the route of forcing a team name and brand and identity on our community, I would not have been able to look anyone in the face and say this is the community's team," said Matt Homonoff, USL Omaha's Chief Operating Officer.

The goal is to have a crest and name in place later this summer. The franchise kicks off play in 2020.
