OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — We are learning more about the start of the new school year for Omaha Public Schools where sports may be sidelined for awhile.
During a Zoom meeting with the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Logan said she hopes the decision will help the district re-open safely on Tuesday.
She did not specify if that means school teams will start late or cancel their seasons entirely.
"I'll be sharing with the board tomorrow the bad news," Logan said. "I know our athletes are going to be mad. But we can either have school or sports, but we can't have both."
Logan went on to say that earlier this week, 17 athletes at one school were put in quarantine after close contact with someone who later tested positive for COVID-19.
