Camping spaces this Fourth of July weekend will be hard to come by, if you haven’t already made your reservations.
KOA in Gretna said they are all booked up. But Friday morning, was a bit of a transition period between the College World Series campers and Fourth of July campers.
Grounds crews hustled to make their repairs before the predicted 100-degrees heat hit.
At least one camper took advantage of the hot sun.
Joe John Thoendel is thawing his blue catfish; enough for 90 people.
Visting from Oklahoma, he said it's a tradition to bring fish for his family reunion.
“One week I found 19,” Thoendel said. “One week I got 18 The heaviest one was 17 lbs., a lot of them are 10-12 lbs. so you get a lot of meat off them.”
The Thoendel's are only here this weekend, so they may miss some of the Wednesday fireworks, but they're enjoying the simple life camping.
