OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Zoo leaders gave an update on the sea lion exhibit that has been under construction since 2018.
Owen Sea Lion Shores features a 275,000 gallon pool, a 40-foot-long underwater viewing window, underwater forest and sandy beach areas. There's also a wave machine.
Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium President & CEO Dennis Pate says it's all to create an atmosphere similar to the pacific northwest.
"We brought extra lines into the area to create cool zones,” said Pate. “If you've ever been to the ocean you swim through warm and cool zones depending on which way the currents are going, so we've created that for the animals.”
The exhibit is set to open by this Labor Day.
