A Bellevue garage is renting out bay space and tools for people who want to do their own mechanic work.
Adam Loftus started working on cars at age 15. Combine that with nine years selling car parts, and then an idea came to mind.
"I seen the need, I've needed to use the self service garage. I have been doing side jobs on my driving and garage for years," he said.
So Loftus started his own business, DIY garage. Anyone can come in and use a lift, tools, you name it.
According to the American Bureau of Labor Statistics, since 2012, most Americans are keeping their cars a year longer, spending on average 537 dollars a year to maintain them, up from $514 compared to the year before. At this garage, customers pay a flat fee and decide the level of help on the mechanic work. The rates range from 30 to 90 dollars an hour, with either self, full, or assisted service. Most of the people so far have opted for full or self service, Loftus says.
Most of all, for Loftus, he says he loves helping others, and be his own boss.
