Creighton men's basketball assistant coach Steve Lutz has left the Bluejays to accept a similar position at Purdue. Lutz has been at Creighton for the past seven seasons and was one of head coach Greg McDermott's first hires.
"First and foremost, I want to say that the last seven years for my wife, my family and myself have been of the best years of my 22 years in college coaching," Lutz said. "We had a great time here and we have made many lifelong friends here that we will never forget. But, we are excited about the new opportunity to work at a school like Purdue with a head coach who is very similar in terms of being a great human being and basketball coach."
Since Lutz joined the team seven years ago, the Jays amassed a 166-82 record, appeared in four NCAA tournaments, one NIT and one CBI.
"Steve's been an integral part of our program's success in the last seven years, and we thank him for his work within our program both on and off the court," said McDermott. "We wish him and his family all the best as they move on to Purdue."
