UNO baseball beats Nebraska for first time since 1997

Posted

For the first time since 1997, UNO baseball knocked off in-state foe Nebraska to claim a victory in the I-80 rivalry series.  The Mavs held on Wednesday night at Hawks Field in Lincoln, downing the Huskers, 8-7 final.

UNO plated two runs to get on the board first in the top of the 1st inning.  But the Big Red responded right away in the home half of the inning, as Luke Roskam launched his fourth homer of the season to tie the game at 2.

But thanks to a big 6th inning for the Mavericks, UNO extended its lead to an 8-2 advantage over Nebraska.  The Huskers rallied, scoring the final four runs of the game, but the Mavs held on for the 8-7 win.

UNO now improves to 13-19 overall this year and will travel to face Fort Wayne in Summit League action this weekend.  Meanwhile, Nebraska falls to 16-19 overall this season and now visits Rutgers this weekend in New Jersey.
