In front of a sold-out crowd of nearly 8,000 fans the Nebraska volleyball team held its annual Red/White Scrimmage with the Red team winning 2-1 (25-19, 25-17, 20-25).

Senior captain Mikaela Foecke had a team-high seven kills while incoming freshman Callie Schwarzenbach had five kills and freshman setter Nicklin Hames led the Huskers with 26 assists.

Prior to the game the Huskers unveiled its 2017 National Championship banner in front of the crowd of 7,965. Coach John Cook was impressed with the turnout from the fans.

"I think being in this atmosphere is amazing for the student-athletes," Cook said. "To be in that atmosphere for a red and white I mean it's historic selling that out 8,000 for a volleyball opening-season scrimmage is a pretty cool day for our fans, our team and our program."

The Huskers will start its regular season Friday when the team hosts No. 7 at the Devaney Center at 6:00 p.m. The game will be a rematch of the 2017 National Championship.
